- Get protection on the paint before the first salting.
- Rinse salt off regularly during winter, especially wheels and lower panels.
- Deep-clean carpets and mats once the salt season is over.
Before winter
- Protect the paint. A full detail with wax, or a ceramic coating, makes salt much easier to rinse off.
- Clean the interior. Starting winter with clean carpets makes salt stains easier to deal with later.
- Switch to all-weather mats if you have them. They catch slush and salt before it reaches the carpet.
During winter
- Wash every week or two when it's above freezing, focusing on the lower panels, wheels and wheel wells.
- Knock salt and slush off your shoes before getting in.
- Empty and rinse rubber mats when they fill up.
Don't let salt sit on the car for weeks. The longer it stays, the harder it is to remove.
After winter
Once the salt season is over, a full detail gets the film off the paint and wheels, and an interior detail with shampoo and extraction pulls the white salt stains out of carpets and mats.
Salt stains on carpet
Those white rings are dried salt. Vacuuming alone won't remove them. They need to be dissolved and extracted, which is part of our interior shampoo and extraction.

Common questions
Can you detail my car in winter?
Yes, when the weather allows. Very cold or wet days can affect exterior work and coatings, so we'll reach out to reschedule if needed.
Does ceramic coating protect against salt?
It doesn't make the car immune, but salt and grime rinse off much more easily from coated paint.
